How it went
When filming mine we didn't have much time. The lighting
wasn't good, and neither was the sound. the two people acting in mine, if we'd
had more time, probably would have said their lines more naturally. Also, if
our parents weren't watching then maybe we wouldn't have rushed even more to
just get it over and done with, I did ask them to be quiet and they were for
most of it, I could have asked them to leave but I didn’t want to be rude. Now
that I think about it, it doesn’t matter if they are disrupting me I should have
asked them to leave. If everyone had been available and able to get there on
time, then I would have been able to film better footage as I wouldn't have
rushed. Other than that, I did what I could with the footage and tried to make
a good ad.
The footage isn't that good but most of it was good enough,
the worst one was the part when friend #1 puts the drink down in the server
window to show the other friend the drink. that footage was dark because of the
light in the kitchen was too bright, there was a light in the living room, but
it wasn't bright enough and didn't really notice or have time to change it as
it was also the last shot and was a really rushed shot. I did try making it
brighter and zoomed into the drink, so the light wouldn't be in the back, but
it just made it look really pixelated, hence the cringy thing I did and tracked
the drink in the footage with a picture. Part of the reason I decided to film
there was because of the window so it could just be flowy conversation between
the two friends even though they were in different rooms.
What went well is that I did get all the shots I wanted, and
the lighting wasn't the best but was good enough in all the shots, apart from
the one was friend #1 is showing the drink. The audio in all the clips were
good and the actresses said their lines clear enough to be heard even though
was a bit stiff.
Using research
When making the ad I already had an idea of what I wanted to
do, the research helped me finalise things and make my print ads. The research
helped me make an end card then develop it. In the end cards of other ads, I
watched, helped me decide what slogan I should use on my print ads, also helped
me pick colours of the text. When I picked my product, I went online to find
ads to analyse but there were only ones from people who had made ads
themselves, but the common in all of them was a comedic element, because the
drink was called naked. So, from them, they helped me decide on which idea I
should pick out of the three I had come up with, they also helped me develop my
chosen idea. The end cards and slogans helped me develop my print ads as well,
to the colour of the font to the style of the overall ad.
Skills utilised
Before we started to film, after the camera finally turned
on, we check the sound as both me and Jasmine were recording sound in our ads
even though the audio wasn’t that good in mine it was good enough for the ad
and was clear enough to hear, it also didn’t need any enhancing which shows it
was good, we did the white balance for Jasmine's ad but not mine as we were in
a rush the shots in mine weren’t that bad for bad, at least the footage was
good enough to use and didn’t need mush editing to make it useable, if we had
check during mine, it would have probably made the shots brighter. Again, only
in Jasmine's we changed the exposure a bit to make the shot lighter as it was
getting dark, I think I did try to change the exposure during the shot of
friend #1 putting the drink down, but it was either too much or too little.
When checking the focus, I think we did it once for Jasmine's and just kept it
like that which didn't make any different as my footage looked clear enough.
I learned how to use the effects tab in premier pro during
the OPS project, which helped me edit the footage to what I wanted. Even though
using lighting effects on the dark clips didn’t do much it did teach me how to
do it if I needed it for other projects. Learning to use premier pro helped me
to learn a little about the editing software I use to make AMVs on my channel,
so this also helped me with my hobbies.
This project taught me that there is a lot of planning,
research, time and effort that goes into anything media related really.
Planning it all and doing the research was hard for me to do and I didn’t
really know how to use it, but it did help me in some way, finalising small
idea for my project and how to manage time.
During filming this I didn’t do some things like taking
pictures for blogger and check the camera properly, so when looking at the
blogger list I realised for future filming I’ll make a list of what I need to
do during it, like s.w.e.f.f. and pictures
Mine and jasmine’s ads were done in a rush because we didn’t
have much time so this showed me that when / if I’m going to film, I will have
to organise it, such as asking the crew when they will be available in the week
/ day I want to film, then from there, plan what day if needed, what we’re
going to do, who is going to do what and how long the filming is going to take.
